Scholarships
The Kiwanis Club of Monterey is proud to offer an annual four-year college scholarship, which has been a club tradition for over 30 years. All previous scholarship recipients have been outstanding Monterey residents who perform well academically, demonstrate financial need, and have a proven track record of service to their community.
Purpose
The Kiwanis Club of Monterey seeks to foster the college education of selected young citizens of our community. To further this goal, the club awards an annual scholarship. The total amount is $12,000.
Eligibility
The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior for pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, either by directly enrolling at a four-year institution or by initially attending a community college and then transferring to a four-year institution. The applicant’s principal residence must have a zip code of 93940, 93943, or 93944 OR is currently attending a high school in the city of Monterey OR is a member of the Key Club at York School, Monterey, Seaside or Marina high schools.
Selection Process
The club’s scholarship committee will classify each applicant on a rating scale reflecting the following:
▪ Scholastic achievement as reflected by grades
▪ Involvement in extracurricular activities
▪ Community involvement
▪ Financial need
▪ Potential for growth
The most promising candidates will be interviewed before a final decision is reached. The interviews are required and will likely occur on the last Thursday and Friday in April (to be determined based on applicant pool) via Zoom. A winner will be selected shortly thereafter.
