The Kiwanis Club of Monterey is proud to offer an annual four-year college scholarship! This scholarship has been a club tradition for more than 30 years and is currently set at $12,000. All previous scholarship recipients have been students who performed well academically, demonstrated financial need, and had a proven track record of service to their community. The deadline for submitting applications this year is May 1.

Eligibility

The scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior for pursuit of a bachelor’s degree, either by directly enrolling at a four-year institution or by  attending a community college and then transferring to a four-year institution. The applicant must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • currently attends a high school in Monterey; or
  • is an active member of the Key Club at Monterey High School, Seaside High School, Marina High School, or York School.

Selection Process

The club’s scholarship committee will rank applicants based on the following:

  • Scholastic achievement as reflected by grades
  • Involvement in extracurricular activities
  • Community involvement
  • Financial need
  • Potential for growth

The most promising candidates will be interviewed before a final decision is reached. The interviews are required and will occur in mid-May.

The Scholarship Application is mostly completed by the applicant and includes the following elements:

  • A short essay, which is uploaded with the application.
  • The financial information section, which is likely completed by the applicant in consultation with a parent or guardian.
